Floyd County 4-H’ers place in District Food Challenge

LEVELLAND — Five teams from Floyd County participated in the District 2 4-H Food Challenge at the Mallet Event Center on Monday, with two placing in the top three in one of their categories.

The Floyd County team consisting of Kaileigh Cook, Colby Guerrero and Sierra Snowden placed second in the senior division Healthy Dessert category. According to the Floyd County AgriLife Extension Office, this team will advance to the State 4-H Roundup in June.

Karis McIntosh, Dax Guerrero, and Amelia Phillips placed third in the junior Healthy Dessert category for Floyd County.

Also participating in the contest were senior team Avery McInvale, Tyann Phillips and Mia Snowden; intermediates Rylee Austin, Austin Phillips and John Taylor Snowden; and junior team Ella Snowden, Aphrodite Aguilar and Brighton Reese.

Food Challenge teams are presented with a list of ingredients and have 40 minutes to create a dish with those ingredients. Texas 4-H says that participants are judged on “preparation, serving size, food safety concerns, nutritional value and cost.”

In total, 131 teams participate in the competition.
