QUITAQUE — Do you love Texas Country Music?

Do you love supporting something that can only be described as “uniquely Texan?”

Have this weekend free?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you need to get to Quitaque this weekend for BisonFest 2021.

The event, officially known as the Texas State Bison Music Festival, kicks off Saturday as the premier fundraiser for the “Official Bison Herd” of Texas based at Caprock Canyons State Park.

According to the park’s page on the herd, they are the direct descendants of the herd started by Charles Goodnight in 1878 and are “the last remaining examples of the Southern Plains variety of bison.” They were donated to Texas Parks and Wildlife and moved to the 15,000 acre Caprock Canyons in 1997.

The festival is an all-day event featuring a cross-section of Texas music artists; and will also include an arts and crafts fair opening at 10:00 a.m. The music begins at 3:00 p.m. and will rock late into the night.

According to the BisonFest website the lineup is as follows:

3:00     David Beck’s Tejano Weekend
4:30     Max Stalling
6:00     Jason Boland and the Stragglers
8:00     Cory Morrow
10:00    Pat Green

The festival will be held in downtown Quitaque, and food trucks will be on hand for anyone wanting to grab a bite to eat or something to drink while catching the show. General Admission tickets for the festival are $40.00 and coolers will be allowed for a $10.00 fee. Bringing your own lawn chair is encouraged, and pets are welcomed as long as they stay on a leash.
